Perlin follows six remarkable yet ordinary speakers of endangered languages ranging from Yiddish and Lenape to Seke, an indigenous language spoke in Nepal, and Wakhi, spoken in areas from Pakistan to China. He explores how these New Yorkers are keeping their languages alive against overwhelming odds.
